The familiar stop signs at the intersection of Old Tucker Road and Lilburn-Stone Mountain Road will soon be a thing of the past. Construction is beginning for a new roundabout to be put in place of the existing intersection.

Work on the new roundabout has officially begun at the Old Tucker and Lilburn-Stone Mountain intersection. The Gwinnett DOT is projecting the work to be completed in early 2022. It will include the addition of a traffic circle, plus accompanying sidewalks along the newly updated intersection. Also, the project is set to include work on intersection curbs, lighting, drainage, the addition of crosswalks for pedestrians, and more.
Construction is being done by Construction 57, Inc., who won the lowest bid to the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners with a $985,106 contract. This has been funded by the local SPLOST tax and the Department of Water Resources.

Gwinnett County Department Of Transportation Project Description Summary:
This project will construct a roundabout at the intersection of Lilburn Stone Mountain Road and Old Tucker Road. It also includes the installation of pedestrian crossings, curb and gutter, lighting, and associated drainage improvements. This project is funded by SPLOST and the Department of Water Resources.
In an online forum discussing the new construction, some Mountain Park residents have expressed great approval of the project and the expected benefits it will bring to the local community.
As someone who lives off of Old Tucker, I’m thrilled that this is underway! And the sidewalks to Rockbridge are badly needed and long overdue.

Gwinnett County District 2 Planning Commissioner Anthony Crotser says he is hopeful that even more sidewalk connectivity between neighborhood communities could be added as a future project should SPLOST funding continue.
